about the studio

The Green Room offers individual instruction in piano and voice for children through adults. During lessons technique, music theory, ear-training, sight-reading, and musical interpretation are emphasized.

The philosophy of The Green Room is to teach a person on three levels: intellectual- there should be an understanding of music notation and how the voice is produced or piano is played; physical- through muscle memory and specific muscle relaxation; and emotional/spiritual - through a positive and supportive environment, through releasing emotional blockages as well as making an emotional connection to the music and content being expressed.

There is no "official" age requirement for starting lessons at The Green Room. However, piano students must be beginning to read text to enroll. Vocal students must know how to read text and basic music notation--piano lessons are generally a prerequisite for beginning vocal lessons.

Principal Instrument: Piano

Other Instruments Taught
Voice, Theory, Ear Training, Sight Singing

mission statement

To provide dedicated musicians with individualized training in piano and voice, and to give my students the tools necessary to be educated music consumers for their entire lives.

  meet the teacher

Originally from Southern Illinois Jennifer has been playing the piano since she was four years old, playing the organ since she was 12, and singing for nearly all of her life. Jen's family has always been very musical--she and all three of her sisters, plus her mom and dad, sang in the church choir. Jen graduated cum laude from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education (double major in voice and piano) in 2000 and immediately began teaching full-time at Parkway West Middle School in Chesterfield, MO. Jen and her husband, Jay, lived in the historic Central West End in St. Louis for five years while she taught. For nearly all her life, she has sung with, played for, and directed church choirs. Jen currently works at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows as a cantor and pianist, and is a cantor and soprano section leader at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. She is on the voice and piano faculty of the Cathedral's Academy of Music, and for two years she was the Director of Youth Music at Eden UCC in Edwardsville. For five years she sang with the St. Louis Chamber Chorus, St. Louis's premier a'capella choir.
